DID YOU GET YOUR DEER APP IN? Like that recurring high school nightmare of being late for that class you had the test in that meant repeating 9th grade or moving on (plus running in slow motion to it in your underwear), you might be waking up this morning feeling like you forgot something. The deer lottery has closed, summer is wide open, and hey, just for fun, an area bird quiz for ya! Enjoy!
DAILY CONDITIONS:
WEATHER:
With the remnants of the front to our east, that’s where the winds come from, but don’t worry about fish biting the least, as they recover from the slight bump, evening should be fine.
Today: Thu 6/8 – Easterlies all day. Hi 82, Lo 51, Winds E @ 11 mph.
Tomorrow: Fri 6/9 – Warming up – FULL MOON! Hi 92, Lo 60, Winds S @ 23 mph.
SOLUNAR:
Sunrise: 5:49am Sunset: 9:35pm
Moonrise: 8:42pm Moonset: 5:41am
Overhead: 12:45am Underfoot: 1:08pm
Moon Phase: Waxing Gibbous (99% Full)
EDGE HOUR: 8:40 – 9:40 pm. You could really pick and choose based on your schedule, but the sunset bite should be great with the moon rising in the east and the sun setting in the west, but the sunrise hour should be good too, so pick your version of perfection! Assuming you’re a 9-5 sucker like the rest of us, take the evening trip and catch your limit of fish under the nearly full moon after breaking loose from the boss!
DAY RATING:

THREE THINGS
NOW WE WAIT. If you’re reading this, it’s too late. Sounds ominous I know, but the NDG&F firearms lottery closed just a few minutes before this posting went up. Last year, the lottery closed on June 6 and results were announced on July 25, so expect a similar 45-to-50-day timeline for this year’s results. In the meantime, get your trail cams out, check those cards and batteries, and set your mineral blocks out along your favorite trails. Any good ones? Send the photos this way!
SELLING THE SNELL. Originally designed for early hooks that hand no eyes, the snell knot was a way to lock a line to the shank and hold an offering – and hopefully a fish – in place. With a loop and a few twists, and a bit of practice, tying up a dozen walleye spinners takes less than an hour (beads, blades and all) as an added bonus, the neatly-wrapped line around the hook shank looks cool and is incredibly strong.
STATE BIRD QUIZ. Can you name the official bird of each of the following states? North Dakota, Minnesota and South Dakota? Highlight the area after the colon for your answers: Western Meadowlark, Common Loon & Ringneck Pheasant, respectively.
Pretty cool trick, huh!?
The weekend’s just about here – get ready for more warmth and time on the water!
Stay Sharp!
