OUTDOORS ROUNDUP:
RUN IT. Now’s the time to fire up the auger, running a shot of Seafoam or other cleaning agent through the tank along with checking blades to make sure they’re sharp and ready to cut through a season’s worth of ice. Get it going now so there’s no question when the ice is thick enough.
SPOOLED. Replace last year’s monofilament lines that have kinked and coiled on the reel so that you can eliminate lure spin when the first jig or spoon heads down the hole. Remember when finished wrapping up old line to cut one end before you throw it away, so it presents less chance of tangling wildlife.
RE-BAIT. Inspect jars of artificial bait like Berkley Gulp! to be sure there’s been no leaking of the heavily-scented fluid, and that there likely won’t be any in the future. Stock up on favorite options now to get set for the season.
