Angling for channel catfish on the Red river this past week provided a variety of conditions, with different weather each day. As a result, the catfish reacted in kind by moving from on current, to off current and back on again.
The good news is the cats have basically been in the same holes but moving laterally in just those areas from day to day. The only way to combat that is to try both the on current and off current areas and see what works and pattern from that. Sit times have been down to 20-25 minutes consistently for the first time this year which is nice, helping to eliminate water and find fish more effectively.
Bait selections remain frog, sucker and now goldeye. It seems that frogs are working better in the morning, and then the catfish are moving on to cutbait offerings as the day goes on.
