The Peluso Report: Winds Whip Up DL Walleyes

This week has shown that with just a little wind, the walleye fishing on Devils Lake can really improve!  We haven’t had much wind up here, but the little bit we have had over the past seven days has made a drastic improvement in the mood of the fish.

I won’t say it’s rockstar status yet, but at times the walleye angling is showing signs of picking up.  We are mixing things up, going between bobbers, casting, and pitching jigs with plastics.

The fish are super healthy and full of food.  This has made the walleye bite a little more difficult, as they’re not always in a biting mood, being so full.  The pike and white bass, however, have been on a tear and those are super fun to catch also.

I would anticipate things continuing to get better as the days go by and the water continues to warm and dirty up a bit.

Reports from out west still have the Missouri River near Bismarck producing good catches of walleyes and Lake Sakakawea west to east is also kicking out good fishing as well.

I don’t have many openings until August and September.  So if you are looking to fish, those will be the months I can get you in yet on Sakakawea and Devils Lake.  Of course, I’ll be guiding on the Missouri near Bismarck from October 1st until freeze up for those autumn walleyes.  It’s going to be an amazing fall again so don’t miss out on that – get ahold of me!
