Winds subside for the weekend’s most ideal day – you might want to make it a long evening and call in late to work on Monday – as moon overhead and sunset align for a great night of fishing. Don’t forget to mark your calendars for the DU Fun Shoot at Capital City Clays. Have fun shooting a variety of stations and help raise funds for waterfowl habitat initiatives in the Peace Garden State.
Warm conditions stick around, Sunday dang near perfect.
Today: Sun 6/4 – Fishermen be warned, bikini hatch in full swing. Hi 88, Lo 53, Winds L&V @ 7 mph.
Tomorrow: Mon 6/5 – Still warm with SE Winds. Hi 87, Lo 57, Winds SE @ 17 mph.
Sunday June 3, 2017
Sunrise: 5:50am Sunset: 9:32pm
Moonrise: 4:45pm Moonset: 3:45am
Overhead: 10:33pm Underfoot: 10:11am
Moon Phase: Waxing Gibbous (78% Full)
EDGE HOUR: 9:30 – 10:30 p.m. Stretch your weekend out as far as you can to get on the last hot bite. Moon overhead with sunset will again be the top time to be on the water, and with clear skies and a never-ending prairie to the west, you should have enough dusk light to make it back to the boat launch to see what you’re doing.
KNOW YOUR KNOTS. The Palomar Knot (video courtesy Knots By Grog) is one of the quickest, easiest and strongest knots for connecting terminal tackle like jigs and hooks directly to the line. Knowing this knot will cover about 90% of the knot tying you’ll need to do in your fishing career, and provide you with a connection that preserves about 98% of line strength, keeping that pound test number on the box fairly reliable.
SHORT LIVED. Did you know that the average rooster pheasant lives about 10 months? Hunting, predators and weather take their toll on the midwest’s favorite upland bird. Hens are luckier, they live to see almost 20 months on the average – just long enough to beget the next generation, and maybe a second. But our guess is you won’t be thinking about that when your dog is on point this fall.
FUN SHOOT. Register now for the Ducks Unlimited Fun Shoot at Capital City Sporting Clays in Bismarck at 9:00 a.m. on June 24 . Proceeds benefit habitat efforts undertaken by DU in North Dakota. $50 before June 17, $60 after and at the door, youth get in on the action for $25.
