Daily Edge for Fri. Aug. 11

FANTASTIC FRIDAY…FINALLY!  Take advantage of today and play a little hooky, as fishing should be fantastic leading into the system which will wash out your Saturday (sorry!).  In the meantime we’re talking grass – yeah…that kind of grass – along with some other conservation options in today’s Three Things.

THREE THINGS.

BIRDS IN GRASS.  Flashback Friday.  Here’s an interesting article from 1971, where the author and friends find their fill of upland game in the ditchweed of Missouri.  Now that ND has legalized marijuana for medicinal use, could ganja be the next great conservation cover crop?  Errr..what were we talking about…is someone ordering pizza?

BURNING GRASS.  Not much improvement this week in the drought monitor, as things stay about the same in ND’s severe drought despite recent rains.  With an inch or so forecasted for Friday night into Saturday, there’s a chance some gains can be made.

RIVER GRASS.  Details on the NDG&F Riparian CREP program designed to protect the rivers of the southwestern portion of the state can help landowners find great options for their land.  All the while, their efforts (and payouts) prevent siltation, improve water quality, and provide habitat for big game, upland and waterfowl species, watchable wildlife and pollinators.

Stay Sharp.
