Daily Edge for Sun. Sep. 24

MOVING & GROOVING  Yesterday’s edge hour was loaded with wildlife movement ahead of last night’s wet weather.  Today may be the same, but continued rain throughout the day might make it a bit of a soaker – unless you’re waterfowling on the edge of your favorite small water, then you’re halfway there already!  We talk ducks in today’s Three Things.

THREE THINGS.

SHUCKY DUCKY. If you’re laying out, waiting for the sun to rise, bone up on your waterfowl identification.  The NDG&F has a great waterfowl page with the most common species that hunters encounter in the field, all in full color making it easy to identify your quarry, and daydream during the week.

PRIME PRODUCTION.  Waterfowl Production Areas (“WPAs”) are those green splotches on your favorite public land maps.  Paid for with Duck Stamp dollars, these areas provide breeding and rearing grounds for all sorts of ducks, geese and other birds and many other types of wildlife.  Managed by the US Fish and Wildlife Service, these federal lands are open to public hunting with limited restrictions (such as steel or other non-toxic shot requirements).

GET ‘EM CHAMP!  The annual World Duck Calling Championship is a seven-day event in Stuttgart, AR welcoming callers of all levels – youth, intermediate and word championship caliber.  Along with vendors, booths, hunting and waterfowl exhibits of all kinds, the week-long event celebrates all things outdoors and sports rides, food, games and fun for the entire family.

Stay Sharp!
