Daily Edge for Mon. Sep. 25

TAKE THE SHOT(GUN SHELL).  Pheasant season is fast approaching, make sure to get your ammo now and not the night before the season starts, when shelves and selections get a little slim.  We begin to dry out today, and things look good for the rest of the week, we talk about the specialized pheasant load market in today’s Three Things.

(Load Up.  A wide selection of shotgun shells are available for your upland pursuits – and all others – and at no time has the market been larger, or more profitable. Simonson Photo)

THREE THINGS.

STORM BREWING.  Federal’s Prairie Storm shell is one of the most popular ammunitions on the market for upland hunters.  In both 12 and 20 gauge and sizes of 2¾- or 3-inch length, the shells boast Federal’s patented “FLITESTOPPER” pellets with a raised cutting edge at the mid-point of the projectiles.

X ‘EM OUT.  Winchester’s Rooster XR is another specialized upland load targeting pheasant hunters – and their quarry which, especially in late season, can flush at longer distances. The Rooster XR shells are designed to provide a tighter pattern which holds together longer, allowing for more accurate shots downrange.

YOU’RE GOLDEN. Fiocchi’s Golden Pheasant load has been a staple for upland hunters for the past two decades, and was one of the earliest specialty shells for pheasant hunters.  That’s not surprising, as the company has been around for 141 years offering ammo and firearms in Europe and the U.S.
