Daily Edge for Sat. Dec. 2

WHAT A WEEKEND! Here’s hoping you’re getting the most out of this warm stretch, as winter’s return fittingly starts on Monday.  You can always hang lights and wreaths in the bitter cold of next weekend, so as for now, dust off the shotgun, grab Rover and get out there – you’ve got it all on your side, the lack of wind, the warm temps and a full moon lining up for late fall perfection, because winter comes a-knockin’ in just a few days.  We talk about that and more in today’s Three Things.

THREE THINGS.

DOWNWARD SLIDE.  It won’t feel like it today and tomorrow, but a constant breeze will start blowing on Monday, so use every hour you can to fill that muzzleloader or bow tag this weekend, or wrap up any late season waterfowling (closes Dec. 3) before things feel a whole lot more like ice fishing by next weekend with lows below zero and highs in the single digits forecasted.

CROWN JEWEL.  Did you know that the Acme Tackle company started as part of a jewelry business?  The owner took a few pieces of plated jewelry, bent them and added a hook, and thus, the company was born.  Sporting both the Little Cleo and Kastmaster spoon as its crown jewels, the former was rated as one of the top 50 lures of all time by Field & Stream, Acme continues to produce over 1,200 shapes, sizes and models of many popular ice and openwater lures.

FIRE IT UP.  Want to test your skills in winter?  Knowing how to get a good-burning, long-lasting fire going is key to survival.  Check out the Long Fire and practice it if you have a few moments this weekend so you’re ready if you need it next weekend!

Stay Warm, Stay Sharp!
