EYE IT UP. Warm conditions, light winds and a developing bite on area lakes from this stable stretch might make THIS weekend January’s best. Get out there, bait up your rod, flag-down your tip-up and get in on the action! We talk sage brush habitat and more in today’s Three Things.

SAGE ADVICE. A new online tool helps land managers protect songbirds in sagebrush country which includes far southwestern North Dakota, and in turn will also help the imperiled sage grouse by removing undesirable vegetation and possible predators. Learn more from the Sage Grouse Initiative website.
FIRE IT UP. One of the state’s most popular and involved ice fishing derbies is the Devils Lake Volunteer Fire Department event on Six Mile Bay. With thousands of holes and a good deal of work – and play – surrounding the event, the entire community gets involved for this great VFD fundraiser. From trucks and cars, to sonar units, guns, bows and other outdoors items, over 160 prizes await anglers on Jan. 27 at the Tourney.
SIGN ON THE LINE. The first two meetings for the Missouri River Clay Target League will take place on Mon. Jan. 22 and Tue. Jan. 23 for students at Bismarck and Century high schools respectively. Cost for the spring season of the ND CTL for each shooter is $300. Information and sign-up occurs at each event, open to participants and their parents. Bring a valid firearms safety number, credit card (for online fee with state) and check to “MR CTL” for shells and target fees. See YOU on the range!
