Daily Edge for Thu. Aug. 2

UP & AT ‘EM!  Temperatures are on the rise today, bringing in a much more August-like feel to the region with a hot and humid stretch coming on south winds. We talk about that and some history and current events on the hunting and fishing fronts in today’s Three Things.

A LITTLE FLASH. The salmon flasher and dodger came about as a result of commercial fishing methods spilling over into the sporting angler’s realm.  These attractors add flash (obviously), vibration and impart action to the trailing lure or fly.  According to this history by In-Fisherman, when trolled in a group behind the boat, they mimic a school of salmon patrolling an area for prey.

AROUND THE (UPLAND) WORLD.  Turning the calendar page into August has many hunters thinking about fall.  Pheasants Forever has its state-by-state review of spring and summer conditions and an early peak at what to expect in its Summer Bird Report.

TOURN OUT.  It’s another big weekend for fishing tourneys throughout North Dakota, with three scheduled for Saturday and Sunday on Devils Lake alone.  Check out all of the state and local events set up for what looks to be a warm one at the G&F tournament page.

Stay Sharp!
