Daily Edge for Sat. Dec. 1

STEADY.  Steady temperatures on an east wind will be the highlight today, as yesterday’s foggy and frosty conditions subside.  Ice on area lakes is thickening as recent temps have struggled to get above freezing, but be aware of safety this time of year.  While we cautiously wait (and go hunting) we talk about big ice fishing events around the region in today’s Three Things.

THREE THINGS

HOT ICE.  One of North Dakota’s largest ice fishing events is the Devils Lake Volunteer Fire Department’s annual ice tournament.  Slated for Sat. Jan. 26, 2019, this year’s event is the 35th installment of the event and features over 165 prizes including cash, ice gear and a new 2019 Ford Pickup.

EXTRAVAGANZA.  Perhaps the nation’s most noted on-ice event is the Brainerd Jaycees Ice Fishing Extravaganza.  With over $150,000 in prizes, the event draws anglers from around the nation and the world.

SHOW OFF.  In case you haven’t borne witness to the world’s largest ice fishing expo, going on now in St. Paul, MN, check out the St. Paul Ice Expo.  Hundreds of vendors of shacks, augers, rods, lures, sonar and more are set up all weekend and online.

Stay Sharp!
