NEWSWORTHY. While the winds might take the headlines, some big events are on tap for area waters this windy weekend and an expansion by the federal government is worth a look. We cover those items and walleye tagging on two popular ND lakes in today’s Outdoors Roundup.

OUTDOORS ROUNDUP:
TOURN IT UP. It’s a big weekend for fishing tournaments across the state as 11 events are planned, including the long-running Barnes County Wildlife Federation Walleye Tourney on Lake Ashtabula. Additionally, the ATA Missouri River Shoot takes place on Saturday in Bismarck at Capital City Gun Club. Whether you cast or blast – there’s much to do!
MORE REFUGE OPENINGS. The US Fish & Wildlife Service details its planned, continued expansion of hunting opportunities on federal refuges in a recent release, opening 1.4 million acres of access. Additionally, the agency plans on allowing fishing opportunities on a number of National Fish Hatcheries as well (probably not the stock ponds though 😉).
GET TAGGED. The NDG&F has tagged a number of walleyes in both Lake Sakakawea and Alkaline for future study. Anglers should report tagged fish in the normal course – whether caught or released – and can use a QR code at lake landings for more info.
