Daily Edge for Sat. 12/7 – Around the Horn

A DANDY!  A super Saturday is on tap for all your outdoor activities as light southerly winds will set up great upland hunts and warm temperatures will facilitate on-ice movement.  We go around the region with news on our state’s ice and updates on hunting and fishing in neighboring jurisdictions as part of our Outdoors Roundup.

OUTDOORS ROUNDUP:

ND’s NICE ICE.  The NDG&F Dept. highlights the strength of the state’s ice angler population and addresses how high water will help lakes and fish populations throughout the winter.  In addition the agency provides a quick reminder for those to register for this season’s spearing seas.

MT NUMBERS DOWN.  The Montana Game Fish & Parks reports a notable decline in hunter numbers and harvest in its south-central region, which while impacted by tough weather conditions was still at or near historic lows.

MN SEEING RED.  The Minnesota DNR and Tribal Agencies around Red Lake in northern Minnesota have renewed agreements and revamped management strategies to help continue to maintain the walleye population in the lake which crashed in the 1990s due to overharvest.  Invasive species are a new concern for the popular fishery.
