OUTDOORS ROUNDUP:

MONO.  Monofilament is the longest-available fishing line in the modern era.  With some stretch and give, it allows for a bit of shock absorption when trolling or utilizing fast-moving lures like spinnerbaits, crankbaits and spoons.

FLUORO.  Fluorocarbon is a superclear line option most often used for leaders.  Through light refraction qualities in its makeup, the material almost disappears under the water.  Fluoro is quickly becoming the choice for thick pike and muskie leaders, especially in those super-pressured waters.

SUPER.  Utilizing superlines like Berkley Fireline or PowerPro provides a no-stretch sensitive connection to the underwater world. Resistant to snags, sharp objects and teeth, superlines help with a quick hookset and keep things connected.  Watch for them to fade from their original color to a white shade when they’re getting old, trim off the bottom 15 feet or so and get casting again.
