LOOKING WAY AHEAD. While things are nice in the near term for some late season hunting or early ice fishing, we look a ways down the road at next year’s openers along with some concerning upland news to the east and catch a glimpse of a creepy carp in today’s Outdoors Roundup.

OUTDOORS ROUNDUP:
FAR FUTURE. Get your 2020 calendars out and plan accordingly as the NDG&F Dept. has released the prospective season opening dates for the next year. Pending the signing of the Governor’s proclamation, Grouse starts Sep. 12, Pheasant falls on Oct. 10 and Deer Firearms kicks off at noon on Nov. 6.
ROUGHED UP. The Ruffed Grouse Society reports the spread of Equine Encephalitis into Minnesota’s population of thunderbirds. There the Minn. DNR sampled three birds this fall in Itasca county that were infected with the mosquito-borne illness.
FACE IT. A carp with markings around its eyes and mouth making it look like it has a human head has been all the rage on social media and the web. Even making the Sun and other international papers, this fish does have a certain creepiness to it!
